Roadside phone on the freeway of frustration

Mexico.

I live about fifteen miles
from a place called Naco.

The Arizona Mexican border town
is a combination
of the last two letters of Arizona
and the last two letters of Mexico.

Naco.

Each year
nearly two hundred people
die in hundred degree weather
trying to cross illegally
from remote Mexico desert
desolation to Arizona.

Here is two hundred:

Two hundred

I just moved to Arizona
from a place
I couldn’t stand,
and the land of my birth,
into a home I like.

My grandparents came from
another country.

I suppose I was one of the lucky ones.

Where did y’all
say your family
were from?
